Our Story

SuperGeeks' story begins in 1998. I was standing in a big-box computer store called Computer City and happened to overhear an exchange between a customer and an employee. The customer had brought in a PC for repair and the Computer City employee was laughing at her. It was so condescending. I thought: I can do better than that! The customer simply wanted help and all the employee could do was treat her horribly.

And then it hit me. Imagine the Kinko's or Jiffy Lube of computer support...A branded chain of conveniently located and customer focused service centers...serving as a trusted resource to take care of all your computer needs. Knowledgeable, friendly and responsive... SuperGeeks was born!

In the beginning, I worked out of my 2-bedroom home in Nuuanu. No furniture. Just a futon and computers in various states of repair.

I wanted a company name that would be attractive to consumers. The play on 'superman saving the day' and 'computer geeks' was a natural. I came up with the name 'SuperGeeks' and immediately trademarked it. People loved the image.

As business volume grew, I hired real geeks who loved technology, communicated well with people and enjoyed helping others. One year later, we scraped together enough money for our Worldwide Headquarters, located next to Longs on South King St.

In the beginning, we tried to be everything to everyone. We offered our expertise to all who needed help and competed aggressively on price. Eventually, though, I had to choose: What's going to be our strength?

Price, like Walmart? Selection, like Borders? We chose QUALITY. We didn't have to be the cheapest. We didn't even have to offer the most services. We just had to be the best. We hired for quality. Trained for quality. And stood by our quality. Along those lines, we decided we do only what we are exceptionally good at: fixing computers, setting up and maintaining networks, and data recovery. Business boomed!

We now have over 25 SuperGeeks rescuing computers across the State of Hawaii. We have service centers on S. King St. (next to Longs) and in Kapolei (next to Consolidated Theatres.) We even have geeks on the ground on Maui and the Big Island.

Our mission remains the same. To help others, to be the best, to be smart, friendly and responsive. Our vision is unchanged too: the Starbucks of tech support.
